Microsoft Releases Emergency Windows 11 Update to Fix Issues

Microsoft has begun rolling out an emergency out-of-band update for Windows 11, aiming to resolve issues caused by its large September Patch Tuesday update. The update was released yesterday.

The software giant patched nearly 1,000 flaws in its September update, its largest ever, but this also introduced several bugs that affected businesses, developers, and gamers. The initial patch had caused problems with folder shares on Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines, Remote Desktop Services sessions, and some USB audio devices.

This emergency update specifically targets and corrects these reported issues across Windows 11 versions 26H2, 25H2, and 24H2. Microsoft has also released corresponding updates for Windows Server 2022.

The need for this rapid, unscheduled patch highlights the complexities of large software updates and the potential for unintended consequences, even when the primary goal is to enhance security and stability.
