Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Update With New Emojis, File Explorer Enhancements

Microsoft has issued an optional update, KB5124010, for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, enhancing system stability and introducing new features. The update rolls out support for the latest Emoji 17.0 standard, adding new emoticons accessible via the character input panel.

Key improvements are noted in File Explorer. The preview pane now includes a warning for HTML file previews and directly opens PDFs. Folder states within File Explorer are now remembered across sessions, and the details pane has been reorganized for easier access to file properties. Microsoft has also addressed issues related to file path editing and thumbnail reliability.

Beyond File Explorer, the update introduces a new 'Tips' widget to assist users with Windows functionalities. Personalization settings have seen enhancements, including stability improvements for background settings and desktop wallpaper previews. Bluetooth connectivity and audio performance are also targeted for improvements, addressing issues with device recognition and audio streaming stability.

Additional changes include updates to the Magnifier tool's interface to align with Windows 11 design language, new touchpad scrolling gestures, and enhancements to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) for better network connectivity during troubleshooting. Microsoft is also adjusting certain shortcut behaviors in Kiosk mode and has removed the PC-to-PC migration feature from direct system updates, directing users to the Windows Backup application instead.
