Microsoft reportedly targeting 2027 for handheld Xbox release
Microsoft is allegedly developing a dedicated handheld gaming device for a 2027 release, followed by a new console iteration in 2028.

Microsoft is reportedly preparing to enter the mobile gaming hardware market with a handheld device scheduled for release in late 2027. This move, detailed in a recent report, aligns with the company's broader efforts to expand the accessibility of the Xbox ecosystem beyond stationary home consoles.
Following the rumored handheld launch, the company is expected to release a next-generation home console in 2028, currently referred to as Project Helix. Details regarding the hardware remain sparse, including whether Microsoft will manufacture the handheld in-house or collaborate with third-party hardware partners, similar to its previous work with Asus on the Ally series.
Industry analysts note that a handheld device would allow Microsoft to compete more directly with the Nintendo Switch and the Valve Steam Deck. By diversifying its hardware offerings into a 'family of devices,' as suggested by Xbox leadership, the company aims to broaden its user base and integrate its subscription-based gaming services into more portable form factors.
