Microsoft Streamlines Windows 11 ARM Initial Setup

Microsoft is improving the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) for Windows 11 devices running on ARM architecture. Technology news outlet Neowin reports that the OOBE phase will now prioritize the installation of only essential drivers and firmware.

Hardware partners have been notified by Microsoft that the System Manifest feature can be utilized to manage driver and firmware updates for Windows on ARM (WoA) devices. This enables manufacturers to choose whether to install only critical updates during the initial setup, deferring less important ones.

The modification aims to significantly reduce the time users spend during the initial setup, thereby enhancing their first-time user experience. For minor fixes and improvements, manufacturers are advised to continue using the existing Windows Update mechanisms.
