Microsoft Teams to Introduce Reporting Feature Against AI Scams
Microsoft Teams will launch a "report" feature in August to combat AI-generated scams and deepfake participants in meetings.

Microsoft Teams is set to introduce a new "report" feature this August, aimed at combating the growing threat of AI-generated scams and deepfake participants in virtual meetings. The move addresses concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence in creating sophisticated fraudulent activities.
According to Microsoft, AI tools have lowered the technical barrier for implementing scams and cybercrime. Attackers can leverage publicly available information to create realistic deepfake participants and clone target individuals' voices. The company's research in 2025 highlighted the increasing prevalence of AI-assisted fraudulent attacks globally.
The new reporting function will allow meeting attendees to submit reports during a meeting or within its chat. These reports will alert the organization's IT administrators or security teams to investigate potential threats. The feature is designed to address phishing, impersonation, scams, social engineering, and other suspicious activities.
Furthermore, Teams will also implement external meeting bot detection. While some bots can offer beneficial features like transcription services, others might join meetings without user consent, posing security and privacy risks. These updates aim to enhance the security and integrity of the Teams platform.
