Microsoft is testing an integrated network speed test tool in Windows 11 preview builds, moving away from browser-based redirects.
Microsoft has introduced a native network speed testing tool in the latest Windows 11 preview build, version 26340.9767. This update shifts the functionality from a browser-based redirect to Bing into an integrated flyout menu accessible via the operating system's Quick Settings or the taskbar network icon.
Marcus Ash, head of design and research for Windows and devices, confirmed that the new utility utilizes WinUI 3 and was developed through an AI-assisted workflow. This approach is intended to streamline the transformation of design concepts into functional system features.
Ash noted that the integration reflects a strategy to reduce dependency on external web services for core system diagnostics. The move aims to keep users within the desktop environment, providing a more seamless experience for checking connectivity performance.
