Microsoft to Delete Inactive Teams Planner Plans
Starting October 2026, Microsoft will automatically delete Teams Planner plans that are inactive for 180 days. Administrators will have a 30-day window to request recovery.
Microsoft is implementing a new policy for Teams Planner plans, set to take effect in October 2026. Plans created via a meeting that remain inactive for 180 consecutive days will be automatically deleted. Following deletion, administrators will have a 30-day period to request the recovery of these plans.
The company defines 'activity' as creating, editing, or deleting tasks within a plan. Merely opening a plan will not prevent it from being flagged for deletion. Organizers will receive email notifications 30 days and 7 days prior to the scheduled removal. An option to retain the plan for longer is available by clicking a 'Keep Plan' button.
Microsoft stated that this measure is intended to optimize cloud storage space and reduce redundant content within digital workspaces. If a plan is mistakenly deleted, administrators can submit a recovery request to Microsoft within the 30-day window. After this period, the deletion will be irreversible.
