Microsoft to end support for Windows Server 2022, Windows 11 24H2 in October 2026
Microsoft has announced a 60-day countdown for the end of support for several Windows operating systems. Key versions, including Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 24H2 (Home/Pro), will cease receiving updates on October 13, 2026.
Microsoft is reminding users that support for several Windows operating system versions will end on October 13, 2026. This includes Windows Server 2022 across all editions and Windows 11 versions 24H2 Home and Professional.
While Windows Server 2022 will transition to extended support with security updates until October 14, 2031, Microsoft advises server administrators to upgrade to Windows Server 2025. The company offers a 180-day evaluation version for testing.
For Windows 11 users, version 24H2 Home and Pro will stop receiving monthly security and non-security preview updates after the deadline. Users must upgrade to at least Windows 11 version 25H2 to continue receiving updates. Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 24H2 will receive an additional year of support, ending October 12, 2027.
Additionally, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 will also end its update cycle on October 13, 2026. Microsoft recommends organizations migrate to Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 or purchase Extended Security Updates (ESU) if further transition time is needed.
Microsoft will host an online Q&A session for IT professionals on August 20 to address questions regarding these upcoming support changes.
