Microsoft to introduce Xbox Nano controller with integrated cloud connectivity

Microsoft is set to release the Xbox Nano controller, an accessory designed to interact directly with the company's cloud gaming infrastructure. Unlike standard controllers that tether to a console or PC, the device utilizes an internal Wi-Fi module to transmit inputs straight to the server.

This architecture aims to reduce input lag by bypassing the typical host hardware connection. The implementation bears technical similarities to the design of the defunct Google Stadia controller, which also sought to minimize latency through a direct-to-cloud link. The feature is currently undergoing private testing via the updated Xbox Cloud Gaming web interface.

While Microsoft has not formally confirmed the full technical specifications, the device serves as a strategic effort to optimize the performance of its cloud gaming service. By enabling direct network synchronization, the company may lower the barrier to entry for users playing on low-latency internet connections.
