Microsoft to Release Windows 11 26H2 Update with Enhanced Search and Start Menu
Microsoft's Windows 11 will receive the 26H2 feature update in Fall 2026, introducing an improved AI-powered search, a redesigned Start menu, and taskbar customization options.

Microsoft is planning to release the Windows 11 26H2 feature update in Fall 2026, bringing several enhancements to the operating system's search capabilities, AI integration, and user interface. The update aims to streamline the user experience with a focus on artificial intelligence.
A key new feature is "Ask Copilot," which merges traditional file and application searching with direct Copilot AI assistance. Users can now use natural language queries to find files, launch applications, or get AI-generated results directly from the search bar. Additionally, users will have the ability to reposition the taskbar to the top, left, or right side of the screen, moving beyond the traditional bottom placement.
The update also includes a redesigned Start menu, offering users greater control over its appearance and content. Settings will allow for customization of visible sections, including pinned items, recent files, and all applications. A new option to adjust the taskbar size will also be introduced, providing users with more screen real estate.
The Windows Search functionality is being enhanced with an option to disable web search results, allowing searches to focus more on local content for increased speed and efficiency. For existing Windows 11 users, the update will primarily be delivered via an "enablement package," ensuring a quick and straightforward installation process.
