Microsoft Unveils AI Cybersecurity Model, Agent Defense Platform
Microsoft has launched MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, an in-house AI cybersecurity model, and the MDASH platform, aiming to reduce enterprise security costs by approximately 50%.

Microsoft has introduced a new AI-powered cybersecurity model and an agent-based defense platform, aiming to cut enterprise security costs. The company unveiled MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, a compact security model developed internally by its Microsoft AI division, integrated into MDASH, its platform for finding and fixing software vulnerabilities.
Microsoft states that the MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model achieves 96% on the CyberGym benchmark, which measures AI systems' ability to reason over large codebases to find vulnerabilities. This performance surpasses frontier models like Mythos, Gemini, and GPT, while reducing costs by roughly half compared to Microsoft's current production configurations.
Alongside the model, Microsoft introduced Project Perception, an agentic security system that coordinates specialized AI agents. These agents are designed for 'red teaming' (hunting for compromise paths), 'blue teaming' (investigating and triaging risk), and 'green teaming' (remediating and hardening defenses). Project Perception will enter public preview on August 3.
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman emphasized the company's strategy: the future of AI in security lies not in the largest models, but in the most cost-effective ones that deliver sufficient performance. "The future belongs to the cheapest model that's good enough, routed intelligently," Suleyman stated.
The MDASH platform utilizes MAI-Cyber-1-Flash for 90% of tasks, escalating the remaining 10% of highly complex issues to OpenAI's GPT-5.4 model. Microsoft asserts this hybrid architecture offers significant cost savings and enhanced performance, addressing the growing enterprise demand for more economical AI security solutions.
