Microsoft unveiled its new Surface Laptop Ultra, powered by the Nvidia RTX Spark system-on-a-chip, during its first live event in two years. The company also outlined upcoming changes to Windows 11 and shared its vision for how local artificial intelligence and agentic workflows could reshape personal computing for developers and home users alike.
The Surface Laptop Ultra, with a starting price of $2,599, is designed with developers in mind. It will be available in configurations featuring either a 5120-core or 6144-core Blackwell GPU and up to 128GB of LPDDR5x unified memory. The device begins shipping on October 16 and is currently available for pre-order.
While targeted at developers, the laptop's graphical capabilities were highlighted to demonstrate its performance. By leveraging unified memory allocation, the system can handle demanding tasks such as running modern AAA games, exemplified by Gears of War: E-Day shown operating on the device, as well as local AI development.
