Microsoft Updates Windows 10 Security Boot Certificates and Fixes Backup Issue

Microsoft has issued its August cumulative update for Windows 10, designated KB5120249. This update focuses on enhancing the security boot certificate system and addressing a specific backup-related bug.

Following the installation of this update, Windows 10 version 22H2 users under Extended Security Updates (ESU) will see their system build number change to 19045.7663. For Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, the build number will become 19044.7663.

A significant fix included in this release targets an issue where users might encounter a "credentials invalid" error when automatically backing up files to a network share using the File History feature via the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. This error previously prevented scheduled backups from successfully copying files.

The update also expands the deployment of security boot certificates. Microsoft indicated that it plans to continue distributing these certificates through Windows Update to supported PCs and non-managed enterprise devices over the coming months, strengthening the platform's security posture.
