Microsoft updates Windows 11 print management tool

Microsoft is currently developing a new print management application for Windows 11. The application, built on the WinUI 3 framework, is undergoing testing in beta and experimental channels of the Windows Insider program.

This new tool aims to replace the traditional Microsoft Management Console (MMC)-based utility with a more modern interface. The objective is to standardize the look and feel of deeper Windows management tools, aligning them with the Windows 11 design language. The new print management tool functions as a standalone application, appearing in the "All apps" list, unlike its predecessor.

However, the application is still in its early stages of development. Users currently need to run it with administrator privileges, and some interface elements may still rely on older windows. Microsoft has indicated plans to migrate more Windows UI components to the WinUI 3 framework, including file copy and general file dialogs.

The print management tool remains crucial for IT administrators and power users managing printer queues, drivers, and ports. While the new application is in preview, it appears to retain most functionalities of the legacy tool. Microsoft may still introduce changes, remove the feature, or allow it to coexist with the MMC version.
