Microsoft has begun a visual modernization of the shutdown and restart dialog boxes within Windows 11. This update, currently available to users in the Experimental branch of the Windows Insider Program, introduces a refreshed interface for system power options.

The new dialog windows adopt a design language consistent with Windows 11's overall aesthetic, replacing a classic style that has been in use for many years. This change is visible when users initiate shutdown or restart actions through the Windows search function. However, it is important to note that the traditional dialog box accessed via the Alt+F4 keyboard shortcut has not yet received the same visual treatment.

Alongside the UI update, Microsoft is also implementing enhancements to the Windows search experience. Search results are presented more clearly, with better differentiation between source types such as applications, settings, files, and web content. The search home page has been simplified to reduce visual clutter and improve access to recent searches.

Microsoft is also emphasizing the prioritization of local content in search results. When local files, apps, or settings align more closely with a search term, they will appear before web or Microsoft Store suggestions. The search functionality has also been made more forgiving towards spelling errors. Users can now control the display of web results and Store suggestions within the privacy settings.

These updates, including the modernized shutdown dialog, are being distributed in a phased manner, meaning not all Insider users will see the changes immediately. Interested users can explore these features by enabling relevant flags within the Windows Insider Program settings.
