Microsoft Windows 11 26H2 to Enable System Restore Points by Default

Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 11 26H2 update is set to introduce the "Point-in-Time Restore" feature as a default setting. This enhancement aims to bolster system stability and simplify recovery processes for users encountering issues. Reports indicate that the feature will automatically create restore points, allowing devices to be reverted to a prior functional state quickly in case of malfunctions, driver problems, or application corruption.

By default, the Point-in-Time Restore function will generate a backup every 24 hours, retaining the three most recent restore points for a maximum period of 72 hours. These restore points encompass system versions, applications, settings, and local user data. The feature has the potential to occupy up to 50GB of storage space on the system drive, though users can manage this limit through settings.

Automatic activation of this feature is contingent upon the system drive having at least 200GB of available space. If the drive capacity is lower, users will need to enable the feature manually. This new restore functionality is primarily targeted at consumer and unmanaged corporate devices, offering a streamlined recovery option without requiring extensive IT support. Enterprise administrators also retain the ability to disable this feature via group policies.

With the Windows 11 26H2 update, Microsoft is focusing on making system recovery more accessible and automated. This feature provides users with an added layer of security when installing updates or software, mitigating concerns about potential system disruptions and expediting the restoration process.
