Microsoft Windows 11 File Explorer Adds Copilot Button
The latest Windows 11 Release Preview update introduces a Copilot button to the File Explorer. This AI integration feature is currently non-functional but aims to aid in file summarization and analysis.
Microsoft has integrated an experimental Copilot AI feature into the File Explorer within the latest Windows 11 Release Preview channel.
A new "Ask Copilot" button appears on the File Explorer's home page when a user hovers over a file. The intention is for this button to open a dedicated Copilot window, loading the selected file into the AI's context for tasks such as summarization.
However, reports indicate that this button, along with an "Open file location" option, is not yet functional in the current preview build. The "Open file location" button is speculated to be a placeholder or formatting addition.
Challenges may arise with the feature's reliability when handling large files, such as extensive Excel spreadsheets or lengthy documents. Microsoft has not yet provided a timeline for the broader rollout of this functionality.
