Microsoft Windows 11 Update 27H2 Reportedly Based on New Strontium Platform

Microsoft's next major Windows 11 update, version 27H2, is anticipated to launch on a new 'Strontium' platform, according to industry sources. While not officially confirmed, the release is expected to unify the distinct Windows 11 platform versions that have emerged.

The company previously split its Windows 11 user base into two platforms: Germanium, used by most users, and Bromine, exclusive to devices with Snapdragon X and RTX Spark chips. Version 27H2, scheduled for release in late 2027, is slated to merge these branches, becoming the standard for all Windows 11 users.

This update is described as a full operating system upgrade, replacing the core system while preserving user applications, files, and settings. The transition to the Strontium platform marks a significant shift, although Microsoft's strategy of continuous innovation means new features are not tied to specific version releases.

Speculation about a 'Windows 12' continues, but sources indicate it is unlikely to appear before 2026. Microsoft's priority appears to be consolidating the Windows 11 experience before introducing a next-generation operating system.
