Microsoft Word Adds Link-to-Text Feature for Collaboration

Microsoft has rolled out an update for Microsoft Word on Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS, introducing a new "Copy location link" feature. This functionality allows users to generate shareable links that direct recipients to a specific section of text within a document, eliminating the need for manual scrolling.

Users can select a block of text, right-click, and choose "Copy location link." The resulting link, when clicked by someone with document access, will open Word and jump directly to the highlighted text. This feature is supported in both the desktop and web applications.

Microsoft states that the feature is designed to enhance collaboration, feedback, and navigation, particularly in shared documents. It aims to reduce the time collaborators spend searching for specific information, making review and discussion processes more efficient. This is especially useful in scenarios where precise text references are needed quickly, such as during online meetings.

The new link-to-text functionality is available for Windows versions 2605 (Build 20011.20000) and later, and Mac version 16.109 (Build 26051019) and later. The web version of Word does not currently support this feature.
