Microsoft XBOX reportedly preparing to digitize physical games
Microsoft XBOX is reportedly planning to introduce a new feature allowing players to digitize their physical game discs. The initiative, codenamed Project Positron, aims to ease the transition to digital gaming.

Microsoft's XBOX gaming console may soon offer a feature to digitize physical game discs, according to a report by Mp1st. The initiative, codenamed Project Positron, is designed to convert purchased physical games into digital licenses permanently linked to a player's Microsoft account.
The news follows an unexpected delay in the usual XBOX Insider preview program update. Brad Rossetti, head of the XBOX Insider program, hinted that the reason for the delay was significant, with journalist Jez Corden corroborating the existence of Project Positron.
Details suggest that players could insert a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc into their console to receive a digital license of that game, tied to their account. While this may not replicate all uses of the physical disc, it is expected to allow games to be lent to friends and preserve the used game market.
Project Positron appears to be Microsoft's strategy to adapt to the industry's shift towards digital distribution. This move comes as competitors, such as Sony's PlayStation, are reportedly phasing out physical disc support in the coming years, highlighting the growing importance of digital solutions in the gaming landscape.
