Microsoft's Xbox Series X Faces International Supply Shortages

Microsoft's Xbox Series X game consoles are experiencing ongoing supply shortages in markets including Europe and Latin America. Component availability issues and increased demand are contributing factors.

Microsoft's Xbox Series X game consoles continue to face supply shortages in several international markets, including Europe and Latin America. Some retailers have reportedly doubled the console's price from its official recommended retail price.

The shortages are attributed to a confluence of factors. Microsoft acknowledged in June that ongoing shortages of memory and other storage components were impacting Xbox console production. Additionally, a surge in demand, partly fueled by the anticipation of major game releases like Grand Theft Auto VI, has exacerbated supply constraints.

In Sweden, one player reported that the Xbox Series X was only available from a single retailer at a significantly inflated price. The official recommended retail price for the 1TB disc version is approximately 7,770 Swedish kronor, but reports indicate it was being sold for around $1,600 USD.

While the Xbox Series X faces these supply challenges, the situation is reportedly less pronounced than for Sony's PlayStation 5. Microsoft has also been emphasizing exclusive titles in its game publishing strategy.
