Midea Building Technologies Explains Microwave Oven Functionality

Midea Building Technologies has published a guide clarifying how microwave ovens function for consumers. The information explains how these appliances heat food using electromagnetic waves, why uneven heating can occur, and which materials are safe for microwave use.

Microwave ovens are designed to heat and defrost food rapidly. According to Midea, the core component is the magnetron, which generates high-density waves. These waves reflect off the oven's metallic interior walls and interact with the food, causing water molecules to vibrate and generate heat.

Uneven heating typically results from the non-uniform distribution of these waves within the oven cavity. The state of the food itself also plays a role; frozen portions heat slower than thawed ones because the water molecules in ice have limited movement.

Material selection is crucial for safe operation. Ceramics and certain plastics are safe as they do not absorb or interact significantly with microwave radiation. Metals, conversely, reflect these waves, which can lead to arcing and potential damage to the appliance. Midea emphasizes that microwaves do not make food radioactive and that mobile phone signals are distinct from microwave radiation.
