Midea Building Technologies has published a comprehensive guide aimed at demystifying the "secret code" of symbols found on washing and drying machines. The company emphasizes that seemingly complex symbols are based on a limited set of core shapes, the understanding of which simplifies the correct care of garments.

According to the guide, most laundry symbols are constructed by combining basic elements. For instance, a black dot represents the washing temperature, with the number of dots indicating the temperature level. Lines below the wash tub symbol suggest a gentler wash cycle, and the number of lines denotes the required delicacy of the wash mode. A symbol with an 'X' indicates prohibition, while a triangle relates to bleaching standards, and a circle pertains to dry cleaning.

Regarding washing instructions, the guide differentiates wash types: a plain wash tub allows machine washing, a hand next to the tub symbol requires hand washing, and a crossed-out tub prohibits washing. Water temperature symbols utilize dots to indicate the recommended temperature, ranging from 30°C to 70°C. For wash cycles, a line under the wash tub symbol signifies a permanent press cycle, and multiple lines indicate a delicate cycle for sensitive materials.

Concerning drying symbols, the guide notes that a square containing a circle allows for tumble drying unless it is crossed out. A solid black circle symbolizes drying without heat.
