Chinese technology group Midea Group has finalized the acquisition of a majority stake in Italian medical imaging firm Esaote S.p.A. The transaction aims to combine Esaote's expertise with Midea's global industrial capabilities, enhancing the competitiveness of both companies in international markets.
Esaote will continue to operate as an independent global entity, headquartered in Genoa, Italy. The company maintains research and development centers and production facilities in Italy and the Netherlands. Midea's support is expected to facilitate targeted investments in R&D and production capacity expansion, thereby accelerating Esaote's growth.
Jinlei Chen, President of Midea Healthcare Division, highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition. Esaote's acquisition complements Midea's existing product portfolio, which includes radiology, MRI, CT, and digital angiography equipment. Esaote's strengths in ultrasound, open MRI systems, and medical IT solutions are anticipated to create synergies within the group.
The company stated that the deal reinforces Midea's position in the global medical imaging market. Franco Fontana will continue as CEO of Esaote, confirmed by the new shareholders. Esaote reported revenues of approximately 267 million euros in fiscal year 2025 and employs around 1,160 individuals.
