Chinese technology conglomerate Midea Group has finalized its acquisition of a majority stake in Italian medical imaging company Esaote. The deal aims to bolster Midea's presence in the healthcare sector.

Midea Group, a Chinese technology conglomerate, has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Esaote S.p.A., an Italian company specializing in medical imaging technology. The transaction is intended to leverage synergies between Esaote and Midea's healthcare division to enhance international competitiveness.
Esaote, headquartered in Genoa, Italy, will continue to operate as an independent global medical device company with research, development, and production facilities in Italy and the Netherlands. Midea stated that the acquisition will accelerate Esaote's growth through targeted investments in research and development, operations, and manufacturing capabilities.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Midea's position in the global medical imaging market. Esaote's product portfolio, particularly in ultrasound and MRI, complements Midea's existing offerings. According to the companies, this combination will broaden customer choice and improve access to advanced diagnostic technologies in international markets.
Franco Fontana will continue as CEO of Esaote. In the fiscal year 2025, Esaote reported revenues of €267 million, with 70% originating from international markets. The company invests approximately 12% of its annual revenue in research and development.
