Midea PortaSplit Named Time Magazine's Best Invention of 2025

Midea Building Technologies' PortaSplit portable air conditioning unit has been named among Time Magazine's Best Inventions of 2025. Developed in Germany, the PortaSplit aims to provide an effective, yet non-permanently installed, solution for cooling and heating spaces.

Traditional portable air conditioners are often noisy and inefficient, while fixed split systems require costly installation and permits. The PortaSplit bridges this gap, offering the performance of a split system without the need for permanent installation. The device is designed for ease of use: it can be set up, plugged in, and operated immediately.

According to Midea representatives, the unit is technically a full-fledged air-to-air heat pump utilizing a closed refrigerant circuit to eliminate installation requirements. It provides up to 3.5 kilowatts of heating and cooling power, suitable for temperature regulation in larger rooms. The unit's energy efficiency is rated A+ for heating and A++ for cooling, positioning it as a more energy-efficient alternative compared to electric heating or fossil fuels.

Product development focused on user-centric design and noise reduction. Particular attention was paid to the unit's compatibility with various window types and its quiet operation, making it suitable for bedroom use. Midea reports significant sales success and continued growth in demand for the product.
