Midea: Refrigerators Need Settling Time After Moving Before Plug-In

Midea Building Technologies has issued guidance on the safe connection of refrigerators after they have been moved. The company advises against plugging in a refrigerator immediately after transport, recommending a waiting period to allow internal oil and refrigerant to settle.

During transit, the oil within a refrigerator's compressor can shift. Plugging the unit in too soon may cause the compressor to run without adequate lubrication, potentially leading to wear or damage. Allowing time for the oil to return to the compressor ensures proper functioning and reduces the risk of malfunction.

The required waiting time varies based on how the refrigerator was transported. If the unit remained upright, a brief rest of 2 to 4 hours is typically sufficient. If it was tilted or transported on its side, a longer period of 12 to 24 hours is recommended. In cases of uncertainty about its position during transit, waiting 24 hours provides a safe margin. Midea also stresses the importance of proper installation. Refrigerators should be placed on a level surface and checked for stability. Adequate clearance, at least 5 cm at the rear, should be maintained for air circulation. Cleaning the interior and exterior before plugging in is also advised.

The company reminds consumers to consult their specific model's user manual, as some modern, high-efficiency compressors may have particular requirements for fluid stabilization.
