miHoYo reveals new game direction with NODUSFALL

Game developer miHoYo has unveiled its new original intellectual property, NODUSFALL, at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany. The announcement included the game's world premiere trailer, offering a first look at its combat mechanics and world setting.

NODUSFALL appears to diverge from miHoYo's established anime-style RPGs like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. The game, developed with Unreal Engine 5, focuses on a more realistic fantasy aesthetic, action-oriented combat, and multiplayer cooperation. The demo highlighted exploration, combat, and cooperative play for up to four players.

The gameplay features customizable characters exploring ruins suspended above a sea of clouds. Combat centers around "Elemental Links," where players coordinate to create energy nodes on giant creatures, utilizing environmental elements and physics-based interactions. This approach emphasizes player coordination and environmental strategy over individual character skills.

The narrative is set on floating continents formed after the shattering of the "Source Core," where scattered elements have altered the ecosystem. Players assume the role of "Linkers" tasked with uncovering the reasons behind the world's destruction. miHoYo has stated that NODUSFALL has been in development for over four years. The company has not yet announced a release date or business model for the title, which represents an effort to explore a new genre and potentially reach a different market segment.
