Mike Rowe Reveals High Salaries for Young Electricians in AI Data Centers

Television personality and "Dirty Jobs" host Mike Rowe has pointed to a significant shortage of skilled labor in the United States, particularly within the booming construction of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Speaking on the "Power Players" podcast, Rowe stated that electricians under 30 years old working in these AI facilities can earn between $240,000 and $280,000 annually, with ample overtime opportunities available.

This high demand for electricians, HVAC technicians, welders, and construction managers on data center projects translates into premium wages. According to Fortune, construction workers on data center projects earn approximately 32% more than those in traditional construction roles, with reported annual salaries ranging from $140,000 to $280,000, especially in areas like Northern Virginia and Texas.

Rowe noted that the young electricians he interviewed had received multiple poaching attempts over the past 18 months, underscoring the industry's competition for qualified talent. He emphasized the importance of skilled trades amidst reports of layoffs in white-collar sectors.

Beyond AI data centers, other skilled trades such as plumbers and mechanics continue to experience high demand. A separate report from Resume Now also identified firefighters as a profession unlikely to be replaced by AI.
