Mindset Shift Could Prevent AI Dystopia
A thought experiment suggests people desire ethically designed AI and deeper reflection, offering a path away from potential dystopian futures.

Amidst growing dystopian narratives surrounding artificial intelligence, a recent informal thought experiment involving approximately 50 individuals offers a new perspective.
Participants were asked to imagine a future, ten years from now, where AI has taken over. They then identified one mindset shift, one behavioral change, and one work process modification they would implement today to prevent such a future.
The responses revealed a common desire for transparency and a demand for ethically designed AI. Many participants also indicated a preference for slowing down and incorporating more reflection into the workday to allow for deeper thought. Notably, a desire for increased "friction" and embodied learning emerged, emphasizing the importance of the human dimension in technological advancement.
These findings suggest that individuals can actively shape the future by demanding AI that complements human consciousness rather than replaces it, highlighting the need to balance technological progress with human values.
