Misunderstood Brands Opens Investment Round to Public
Beverage company Misunderstood Brands, maker of OATRAGEOUS and Misunderstood Whiskey, has launched a public investment round. The company cited significant distribution wins and revenue growth.

Misunderstood Brands, the parent company behind OATRAGEOUS Oat Milk Cream Liqueur and Misunderstood Whiskey Co., has opened an investment round to the public. The company is seeking to raise capital to fund its growth, allowing consumers to invest in its business starting at $100.
The company reported $8.5 million in lifetime revenue over nine years, with 2025 sales reaching $1.7 million, a 24% increase year-over-year. Misunderstood Brands has sold over 800,000 bottles and secured distribution in approximately 5,000 retail locations across 13 states.
OATRAGEOUS, the first oat milk-based cream liqueur in the U.S., and Misunderstood Whiskey are available at retailers including Total Wine & More, Wegmans, and Publix. OATRAGEOUS Espresso is also served on JetBlue flights. The company also received a "Golden Ticket" from Walmart and is preparing for a national rollout.
Misunderstood Brands co-founders JD Recobs and Chris Buglisi expressed enthusiasm for expanding their investor base. "We've always said Misunderstood is made by friends and enjoyed by friends, so opening this round to the people who have supported us along the way feels especially meaningful," Recobs stated.
Proceeds from the investment round are designated for expanding sales headcount, funding local advertising and promotions, covering cost of goods for new products, investing in digital marketing, and securing working capital. The company also plans to launch a new line of ready-to-drink (RTD) canned beverages.
