Mitsubishi to Launch New Electric SUV in Australia Based on Foxtron Platform
Mitsubishi will introduce the all-electric ASX VR-e in Australia during the fourth quarter. The vehicle is based on the Foxtron Bria, with Foxconn involved in its development and manufacturing.
Mitsubishi is set to launch a new all-electric vehicle, the ASX VR-e, in Australia during the fourth quarter of the year. The vehicle is built upon the Foxtron Bria platform and will be produced in Taiwan, with development and manufacturing involving Foxconn and its automotive arm, Yulon. The platform itself was designed by Pininfarina.
Mitsubishi aims to leverage the familiar ASX nameplate, combining it with the VR designation often associated with its performance models, to maintain a connection to its brand heritage. While utilizing a Pininfarina-designed platform, the ASX VR-e is not merely a rebadged Foxtron Bria. Both the front and rear styling, wheel designs, and interior trim elements have been revised to incorporate Mitsubishi's distinct design language.
The new model features an aerodynamic S-Duct design and an active grille shutter system that adjusts based on driving conditions. Mitsubishi states that its global and local engineering teams have conducted extensive testing and tuning, focusing on delivering a sportier performance and more direct handling response.
For comparison, the already available Bria Pioneer version offers a maximum output of 298 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Both versions are equipped with a 57.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The NEDC-rated driving range is 516 kilometers for the rear-wheel-drive model and 466 kilometers for the all-wheel-drive flagship. DC fast charging capability is up to 134 kW.
The vehicle measures 4315mm in length, 1885mm in width, and 1535mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2800mm. It is positioned as a compact crossover or an elevated hatchback.
