MKS Opens Semiconductor Equipment Factory in Malaysia

MKS Inc., a global provider of enabling technologies, has officially opened its new Supercenter Factory in Penang, Malaysia. The facility, spanning approximately 350,000 square feet on a 17-acre site, is designed to address the increasing global demand for wafer fabrication equipment.

The project, developed in multiple phases with the first phase now complete, is expected to create over 1,000 jobs. The total strategic investment is projected to exceed RM400 million. This expansion reinforces Malaysia's role as a key location for high-value, technology-driven manufacturing investments, aligning with the country's New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.

The grand opening ceremony was officiated by Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. Attendees included representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and InvestPenang, highlighting Malaysia's growing significance as a hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor innovation.

Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow stated that the MKS Supercenter Factory marks a significant milestone for Penang as a global center for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor innovation. He emphasized the state's value proposition, including a skilled talent pool and a robust industrial ecosystem that supports high-tech manufacturing, noting the facility's role in advancing Malaysia's position in the semiconductor value chain.
