Mobile emergency alert systems compromised in Ukraine and Russia
Official emergency alert applications in Ukraine and Russia were breached by hackers, resulting in the distribution of false nuclear threat warnings to users.

Authorities in Ukraine and Russia confirmed that their respective national emergency alert mobile applications were targeted by cyberattacks on Sunday. Users in Ukraine received fraudulent notifications claiming imminent nuclear and chemical threats, while Russian systems were used to broadcast false alerts across 33 regions.
Ukrainian officials suspended their service briefly to address the breach, noting that the application is separate from military command systems and that the attack did not impact national defense operations. Russia’s Emergency Ministry reported that it is currently taking measures to prevent further unauthorized access to its digital infrastructure.
While a hacking group identified as Hitcore was linked to the Ukrainian breach via social media, official sources have not independently verified the claim. The Kremlin stated that government agencies face persistent cyber threats, often utilizing artificial intelligence, and has mandated stricter cybersecurity protocols for state-run digital platforms.
