German online car marketplace mobile.de has introduced a new way to buy cars entirely online. To mark the launch, the company delivered a car to a customer in Hamburg in a giant, custom-made sneaker box.

The colossal orange box, measuring 4.90 by 2.35 meters, was transported through the city streets on a small truck. It contained a VW T-Cross, purchased online by customer Jennifer Meyer, who received her new used car in a dramatic unveiling outside her home.

"You don't see something like this every day! I'm very happy to be one of the first to use the new online purchase service and receive my new vehicle in this special way," Meyer stated.

Matthias Schmidt, Head of Sales Operations at mobile.de, personally delivered the car. "With mobile.de's new online purchase service, buying a car is as easy as shopping for sneakers online, which this XL sneaker box symbolizes. Ordering, processing, and delivery are now as simple as you know from online shopping," Schmidt explained. He noted, however, that the oversized box was a one-time promotional stunt.

mobile.de's online purchase service allows customers to buy a vehicle online without visiting a dealership. The service includes handling the purchase agreement with the dealer, registration, seasonal tire changes, and logistics, all without extra cost. Cars available through this service meet high quality standards: they are under three years old, have had a maximum of two previous owners, and have driven fewer than 60,000 kilometers. The vehicles also come with a one-year warranty and a 21-day return policy.
