Mobileye, the autonomous driving technology firm, announced on Tuesday that its founder, Amnon Shashua, intends to resign from his position as Chief Executive Officer. Shashua, who has led the company since its inception, will remain involved with the company in a different capacity.
The company's board of directors will engage a search firm to undertake a comprehensive process to select a new CEO. Following his departure from the CEO role, Shashua is expected to transition to the position of Chairman of the Board. In this capacity, he will focus on long-term technology trends and innovation opportunities, including advancing the company's humanoid robotics ventures.
Shashua stated in a press release that Mobileye has been his life's work for nearly three decades. He believes the timing is appropriate to establish leadership that best suits the company's next phase of growth. He expressed continued enthusiasm for Mobileye's success and future opportunities, particularly in areas of advanced artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and robotics.
Intel currently holds approximately a 77% stake in Mobileye. The leadership change comes as the autonomous driving sector continues to evolve rapidly, with significant investments and ongoing development from various industry players.
