MoEngage CFO Expands Role Beyond Balance Sheets
MoEngage CFO Narasimha Reddy emphasizes that modern finance heads require a broader business understanding that extends beyond traditional financial statements.

MoEngage's Chief Financial Officer, Narasimha Reddy, has taken on an expanded role, moving beyond traditional finance responsibilities to encompass broader leadership and strategy within the software company.
The role of a CFO is increasingly expected to involve decisions related to cybersecurity, mergers and acquisitions, and ESG initiatives, as these all carry financial implications. Reddy, who joined MoEngage in 2015 when it was a small startup, has been instrumental in its growth into a global entity serving over 1,300 consumer brands, including major names like Starbucks and Coca-Cola.
Reddy's tenure has included navigating significant challenges, such as fundraising during tight capital markets and convincing the sales team to adopt a new pricing model. He played a key role in shifting enterprise customers from monthly post-paid contracts to annual pre-paid plans, a move that significantly improved cash flow during a difficult period in 2016-2017. This decision, initially met with skepticism by the sales team, proved crucial for the company's survival.
MoEngage has since achieved significant milestones, raising $280 million in a Series F round and surpassing nearly $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). The company also reported profitability in the December quarter of 2025. Reddy's responsibilities have grown to include strategy, HR, and partnerships.
Reddy highlights that the CFO role in new-age companies is broad, requiring a deep understanding of the entire business, product economics, and capital allocation. He believes future CFOs will be distinguished by their ability to integrate financial expertise with overall business strategy and growth.
