Mohawk and DuPont Partner on New Carpet Fiber Technology

Mohawk Industries and DuPont announced an exclusive partnership to launch a new line of residential carpets. The new SmartStrand product utilizes DuPont's Sorona polymer technology.

Mohawk Industries and chemical company DuPont have entered into an exclusive agreement to develop a new range of residential carpets. Under the partnership, Mohawk will manufacture and market DuPont's novel Sorona polymer technology under the "SmartStrand" brand.

Mohawk CEO Jeffrey S. Lorberbaum described the new fiber technology as a significant advancement for the industry, offering a combination of durability, stain resistance, and softness. The company has expressed strong confidence in the product by offering a limited lifetime warranty against staining for SmartStrand carpets.

SmartStrand carpets, made with DuPont's Sorona polymer, are now available in stores. This technology, exclusive to Mohawk, promises consumers durability and ease of maintenance. The material's stain resistance is engineered into the fiber itself, meaning it will not wear off or wash out. This is because the fiber structure lacks acid dye sites that typically attract stains.

Mohawk Industries is a major global flooring manufacturer, offering carpets, ceramic tile, wood, stone, and laminate flooring. DuPont is a science-based company that develops innovative solutions across various industries.
