Mondego Bio Begins Human Clinical Trials for MB-388 Cancer Candidate

Mondego Bio has commenced a Phase 1a clinical study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics, and pathway engagement of MB-388 in healthy volunteers. The compound is a dual PTPN2/PTPN1 inhibitor, a class of drugs aimed at modifying cellular signals to enhance the effectiveness of immune-based cancer treatments.

The research addresses a significant challenge in oncology: the resistance many patients develop to current immunotherapy regimens. By inhibiting PTPN2 and PTPN1, the company seeks to remove internal constraints on immune cell activity, potentially allowing the body’s own defenses to combat tumors more effectively.

Following the completion of the healthy volunteer study, Mondego Bio plans to launch a Phase 1b trial in January 2027. This follow-up study will transition to clinical testing in patients diagnosed with advanced solid tumors to further assess efficacy and safety in a disease-specific setting.
