Moody's Ratings has upgraded the Central American Bank for Economic Integration's (CABEI) long-term issuer rating from "Aa3" to "Aa2" and assigned a new positive outlook. This marks the bank's sixth and seventh positive rating actions between 2025 and 2026, reinforcing its standing as a robust multilateral development bank globally.

The upgrade primarily reflects CABEI's strengthened intrinsic financial strength, driven by sustained improvements in capital adequacy, portfolio diversification, and institutional governance. Moody's noted a significant reduction in credit exposure concentration, attributed to proactive balance sheet management and the implementation of Exposure Exchange Agreements. The bank maintains robust liquidity and a strong credit quality portfolio with no arrears.

CABEI's Executive President, Gisela Sánchez, stated that the upgrade confirms that leading rating agencies share the same assessment of the bank's strategic direction and ongoing innovation. This recognition, coupled with member countries' capital increases, reinforces confidence in the bank's trajectory.

Moody's also highlighted the approval of CABEI's ninth General Capital Increase, which raises authorized capital from US$7.0 billion to US$10.0 billion. This move is expected to strengthen the bank's governance and its capacity for operational expansion. The positive outlook suggests potential for further rating upgrades should highly rated new members join the institution.
