Air purifier manufacturer MOOKA has issued guidance on the safe use of essential oils with its HEPA-filter equipped air purifiers. The guide, updated in May 2026, stresses that essential oils should never be added directly to the HEPA filter, but only to the device's dedicated aroma pad.

MOOKA explains that the primary function of an air purifier is to remove airborne particles. Applying essential oils to the filter can clog its fibers, reduce airflow, and consequently compromise the purification unit's performance. Instead, in MOOKA's devices, oils are applied to a separate aroma pad near the air outlet, allowing them to disperse into the already filtered air. The company states this approach allows for the addition of a subtle aroma without impacting purification capabilities.

The guide also addresses the benefits and risks associated with using essential oils. Users may report fresher air, masking of persistent odors, or the creation of a relaxing ambiance. MOOKA reminds users that essential oils are concentrated and should be used sparingly, starting with 2-3 drops.
