MOOKA Compares Odor Removal Methods, Air Purifier Most Effective

MOOKA, a company specializing in air quality solutions, has released findings from a comparative study on methods used to eliminate household odors. The company's research indicates that dedicated air purifiers are the most effective means for permanently removing stubborn smells, such as those from cooking or smoke.

The study found that exhaust fans, while designed to vent air, have limited effectiveness against deeply ingrained odors. These fans create negative pressure, expelling some air but failing to capture persistent odor molecules and particles that adhere to surfaces. Furthermore, their functionality is often restricted to specific areas like kitchens or bathrooms, leaving other living spaces untreated.

Scented candles were also evaluated and found to be ineffective at odor removal. Instead of eliminating odors, they introduce synthetic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and soot into the air, merely masking existing smells. This creates a complex mixture of the original odor alongside the candle's emissions, which can be inhaled.

MOOKA's analysis highlights that true odor destruction relies on a multi-stage filtration system capable of trapping both particles and odor-causing molecules. The company suggests looking for air purifiers with a high Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) specifically for smoke, recommending a rate that allows for four to five air exchanges per hour in a given space.

The research also points out that persistent odors can settle into soft furnishings and fabrics, becoming a long-term issue. Air purifiers, through their mechanical filtration process, actively remove these pollutants from circulation, thereby improving the overall indoor air quality.
