Moon Five Receives Award for Renter-Focused EV Charging Solution

Moon Five, a clean energy startup focused on electric vehicle (EV) charging for renters, has been awarded the 2026 Scale Catalyst Award by the Electric Innovation Initiative. The award recognizes the company's scalable solution designed to overcome barriers to EV adoption for residents in multifamily housing.
The initiative highlighted Moon Five's unique strategy that allows tenants to initiate the installation of EV chargers, demonstrating demand and qualifying their buildings without requiring extensive external infrastructure projects. This approach streamlines the process for tenants, property owners, and electricians, making EV ownership more feasible for renters.
"This award validates our belief that expanding EV access doesn't always require rebuilding infrastructure from the ground up," stated Stephan Ng, CEO of Moon Five Technologies. "By better utilizing the power already available in apartment buildings, we provide renters a practical way to charge at home and create a replicable model."
The Moon Five system integrates modular charging hardware with an energy management system that optimizes power use within existing electrical capacity, avoiding costly building upgrades. The service costs renters $50 per month plus electricity usage, with no installation or maintenance fees. The company is currently deploying over 400 charging units in California under a $3.4 million grant and is preparing a second-generation charging and energy management platform for commercial production.
