More Than Half of Workers Would Accept Pay Cut for Job Security
A new survey by Monster reveals that over half of US employees are willing to take a pay cut to secure their jobs. This highlights a growing concern for workplace stability among the workforce.

Job security has emerged as a primary concern for American workers, according to a new survey conducted by Monster. In the 2026 survey, 54% of employees indicated they would accept a reduction in their salary in exchange for greater job stability.
Amidst rising living costs, many employees are prioritizing a stable income. The survey found that 28% of respondents would accept a pay cut of at least 5%, with 11% willing to take a 10% reduction to ensure their employment.
Beyond salary reductions, workers are also considering trading other benefits for job security. Twenty-six percent stated they would accept reduced bonuses or incentives, while 23% would even give up the option for remote work. Additionally, 17% reported being willing to pay higher health insurance costs.
While a significant portion of the workforce prioritizes job security, 39% are not willing to sacrifice any benefits. Recent data from the Department of Labor, showing unexpected job cuts, provides context for these employee concerns.
The Department of Labor report indicated that US employers unexpectedly cut 23,000 jobs last month. Although the unemployment rate fell to 4.1%, this was partly due to 264,000 Americans ceasing their active job search.
