Morrisons has initiated a pilot of StrongPoint's multi-temperature Click & Collect grocery locker technology at its Skipton store in North Yorkshire, a move the supermarket chain describes as a UK first.
The new system aims to eliminate customer waiting times by allowing orders to be pre-loaded into lockers before customer arrival. Customers retrieve their groceries by entering a unique six-digit code. This process is designed to expedite collections and extend Click & Collect operating hours by two hours daily, while also supporting same-day order fulfillment.
The lockers feature distinct temperature zones for ambient, chilled (3-5°C), and frozen (-18°C to -20°C) products. The technology integrates VoCoVo communication, enabling customers to connect directly with store staff for assistance, including age verification for restricted items.
Morrisons states the locker solution offers a faster and more flexible collection experience. This pilot is part of the company's investment in enhancing its online proposition, focusing on improving customer convenience and maintaining product quality.
