Most AI Coaching Fails Due to Flawed Approach

The majority of AI coaching services currently available are built on a flawed premise: they coach the individual by interpreting personality results and presenting them to the user.

Scott Schwefel, founder and CEO of Discover Yourself and an author for Inc. Magazine, argues this approach is incorrect. He emphasizes that problems rarely stem from within individuals in isolation, but rather from interpersonal dynamics. "A coach that only talks to you about you is solving the wrong equation," Schwefel states.

Nobel laureate psychologist Daniel Kahneman estimates that humans are self-aware only 3-5% of the time. The remaining 95-97% is spent on autopilot, influencing how we interact with others. Traditional personality workshops offer temporary insights and seldom lead to lasting behavioral change.

Schwefel highlights that the core issue is not a lack of insight, but rather the follow-through and application. He believes the solution lies in moving coaching from the conference room into the daily workday, where it can reach individuals when they are otherwise operating on autopilot.

AI-driven coaching can offer a new dimension by reminding users how specific individuals operate and providing advice to improve communication. Tools that can analyze the dynamics between two people, based on their profiles, have the potential to resolve issues arising in interpersonal relationships and enhance team performance.
