Motorola GrapheneOS phones to launch in 2027 at premium price point

Motorola and the developers of the privacy-focused GrapheneOS operating system have provided an update on their partnership, confirming that devices will launch in 2027. The collaboration aims to expand GrapheneOS support beyond Google's Pixel phones.

The upcoming Motorola phones will receive full support for GrapheneOS, developed in conjunction with Motorola. Previously, only Pixel phones met the OS's stringent hardware requirements for enhanced security and privacy. GrapheneOS is built on Android and features like advanced memory protection and granular app permissions.

The GrapheneOS team has indicated that these new Motorola devices will be positioned as premium flagship models. Pricing is expected to exceed that of current Google Pixel phones, which already retail for upwards of $900 for base models.

GrapheneOS also includes a duress code feature, designed to remotely wipe the phone's data, which has previously been noted in legal contexts.
