Mouser Electronics announced it is now shipping the ZP-L series laser displacement sensors from Omron Industrial Automation. The ZP-L sensors are positioned between photoelectric sensors and higher-end measurement systems, filling a gap for applications requiring precise measurements.

The sensors are specifically targeted for automotive manufacturing and digital quality control processes. They are also suitable for calibration, surface inspection, and dimensional analysis. The ZP-L series offers high resolution and accuracy for measuring displacement and position feedback, which is critical in precision-focused industrial environments.

According to the announcement, the sensors can detect and measure objects as small as approximately one millimeter, providing improved stability and accuracy compared to standard photoelectric sensors. A compact sensor head, wide measurement angles, and advanced algorithms allow for reliable detection across various materials and surfaces. The ability to measure at angles up to 85 degrees offers greater design flexibility, especially when direct overhead mounting is not feasible.

Ease of use is highlighted, with an intuitive OLED display and supporting software for quick testing. The sensors offer 0.5µm static resolution and 0.025% linearity, featuring analog and network outputs. The inclusion of Wave Inspire software support is intended to reduce commissioning time and simplify multi-sensor integration. This aims to help OEMs and end-users decrease false rejects and improve the consistency of process performance.
