Movie Theaters Undertake Major Efforts for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' IMAX Screenings
Only 25 theaters nationwide were equipped to show Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' in its intended IMAX 70mm format, leading to months of preparation and exceptional audience demand.

Movie theaters have undertaken significant logistical efforts to screen Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, 'The Odyssey,' shot entirely on IMAX cameras. The preparations, in some cases, began over nine months prior to the film's release.
In October, Cinemark, a major global cinema chain, announced a new partnership with IMAX. This agreement led to 17 Cinemark locations being outfitted with IMAX systems, with three specifically receiving 70mm IMAX film projectors in anticipation of 'The Odyssey.'
Across the United States, only 25 theaters in 14 states are capable of presenting the nearly three-hour film in its intended 70mm IMAX film format. This limited capacity has driven intense demand, with many locations capitalizing on the opportunity to showcase the summer's expected blockbuster.
Audience response has been extraordinary. The Tennessee Aquarium's IMAX theater, which brought its 70mm projector out of a decade-long retirement, has reportedly sold out all showings for its opening weekend. Other theaters have added early morning and late-night screenings to meet demand, with these unconventional showtimes also nearing capacity.
Film enthusiasts unable to secure tickets have reportedly planned cross-country road trips to experience Nolan's latest work on the large screen, highlighting the film's significant draw.
