Moving House? What to Know About the Broadcasting Contribution
ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio's Beitragsservice reminds individuals about their broadcasting contribution obligations when moving. Only one contribution is required per household and is tied to the individual, not the property.

The Broadcasting Service of ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio has issued guidance for individuals moving residence, outlining requirements related to the broadcasting contribution. The service emphasizes that only one contribution is mandated per household and that this obligation is personal, not tied to a specific property.
When moving into a new residence for the first time, individuals must register their new address with the service. This registration establishes a personal contribution account and assigns a unique contribution number. The quickest method for registration is via the online portal. Existing contributors only need to report an address change.
In shared living situations where one resident already pays the contribution, others in the household are exempt from paying separately. However, it is crucial to inform the service about who is making the payments. The service will send an inquiry to clarify, requiring the submitting resident's contribution number.
The service advises against paying the contribution on behalf of another registered person without proper notification, as this can lead to complications during moves. When vacating a shared dwelling, the individual responsible for the contribution should either notify an address change for their new residence or deregister their old account if another resident assumes the contribution.
This information aims to clarify the process for individuals during relocation, ensuring compliance with broadcasting contribution regulations and preventing potential issues with payment responsibilities.
